Emacs (or Editing MACroS) is a text editing philosophy that was originally a set of macros for the TECO line editor.

It is one of the most popular TextEditorFamilies. Editors in the EmacsFamily are typically amodal, in stark contrast with ViFamily or AEDITFamily.

The most important two keystrokes in emacs are: ^X^C which gets you out of it! :-)
