This text editor wisely (I think) chose to support the WindowsScriptingHost (or WSH) method of embedding MacroLanguage code into the editor. Thus, you can use any MacroLanguage that supports WSH to code in. This include JScript and VBScript as well as Perl. It also has the ability to search for text across multiple files as well as performing replacement/substitution across multiple files. Tabbed editing is supported. I have the Pro version and have been pretty happy with it. I use EmEditor anytime I need to handle Unicode. Check them out! (EricPement)
EmEditor Professional is a lightweight but extensible, text editor for Windows, which supports JavaScript or VBScript macros, Unicode (allowing for multi-language support), text encoding support (automatic encoding detection, Byte Order Mark support, file reload with a different encoding, detection of encoding errors), plug-ins, syntax highlighting (including embedded scripts in HTML, ASP, and PHP files), drag-and-drop, and menu and keyboard customizations. The text editor supports not only JavaScript and VBScript for the text editing macros, but also PerlScript??, PHPScript, Python, Ruby, and many other ActiveScript?? languages as long as script engines you want to use are installed on your system. Macros can be assigned to keyboard and toolbar buttons. EmEditor allows you to easily open huge files (up to 248GB or 2.1 billion lines) fast, using a large file controller, and is optimized for speed and reliability.
EmEditor Professional can record and play keystrokes and mouse operation against other applications and includes plug-ins such as Projects, Snippets, HTMLBar, FindBar??, and Word Complete. The program also includes lots of objects for macros, the Macros Toolbar, and portability options (such as USB drive setup) through an Import/Export?? wizard, as well as, virtual space mode, wrap indent, tabbed window design, vertical selection editing (to allow the editing of text in column format), binary editing, smooth scroll, theme feature for color settings, and crash auto-recovery. EmEditor Professional also includes these features: grab text, search and replace (including regular expressions), indent guides, function bar, auto-panning, and an EmEditor Quick Start option which allows the EmEditor window to open very quickly.
There is currently one version of EmEditor avaliable from the official website: the Professional Version ($39.99).
