Integration with a programming language debugger is a feature that a number of text editors support. The trick is being able to invoke features such as: * StepInto * StepOver * ShowBreakpoints * ClearBreakpoints * Return * ShowVariables * etc etc. It also requires some way of showing line numbers in order to set breakpoints using a mouse, for example. Editors and IDEs that include this capability include: On PCS and UNIX: * GnuEmacs (GUD) * PhpEd * [[Eclipse]] * VisualStudio * NetBeans * [[Komodo]] * CodeWright * [[crisp]] * [[VIM]] On mainframes: * [[XEDIT]] * [[ISPF]] Oddly enough, I don't remember integration on VAX/VMS with the text editors of that platform (although VAX DEBUG was wonderful...)
