Well... It's a command line utility to dumr an arbitrary file in hex or as formatted records. It can also turn a dump back into a file. So you probably could call it from a programmable editor to dump a file in hex, load that file into the editor, and edit it, then use XD to convert it again.

But if you need to do that and your editor doesn't have a hex mode, you're probably better to just use a dedicated hex editor. --DMcCunney
